Paul Merson is “tentatively” backing Manchester United to ease to a 3-1 win over Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils have managed to steady the ship over the past few weeks following a difficult start to the Premier League season.

Manchester United lost successive Premier League games following defeats by Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Jose Mourinho’s side responded before the international break with a 2-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Manchester United secured successive Premier League victories for the first time this season with a 2-1 win at Watford last weekend.

The Red Devils made a positive start to their Champions League campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory over Young Boys in Switzerland mid-week.

Goals from Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial secured three points for the 20-time English champions.

Former Arsenal star Merson believes the Red Devils will ease to victory over Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

“Who in their wildest dreams would have even considered Wolves winning at Old Trafford not so long ago?” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Now all of a sudden I’m tentatively backing United to win, that’s a testament to how far Wolves have come. United got a great result on Wednesday away at Young Boys.”

Wolves are the only Premier League team to take points off defending champions Manchester City so far this season following a 0-0 draw with the Citizens at Molineaux.

Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term to secure their best finish since the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
