Mark Lawrenson has heaped praise on Watford and Tottenham before the two sides meet at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

To the surprise of many, both sides have taken maximum points so far this campaign and sit joint-top of the Premier League alongside Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC.

Watford are always written off before a ball is kicked, but Spurs’ lack of transfer activity had some people worried.

Lawrenson said on his BBC Sport Premier League predictions column: “Both these teams have started really well.

“With Watford, I always worry they will have that dip and look like a team cascading towards relegation – but I like the manager.

“Tottenham did seem to miss the boat by not signing anyone during the summer transfer window, but they have some really good players.”

Watford are dismissed as relegation fodder at the beginning of most campaigns, but they seem to relish this status as they have once again started the season in great shape.

They have bested Brighton, Burnley and Crystal Palace so far this time out, but Spurs will provide them with their first top-six test this season.

Spurs were supposed to struggle as they made no signings in the summer as well as having the majority of senior players playing in the latter stages of the World Cup in Russia.

They have waved away such speculation with three wins from three, including last Monday’s impressive 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

However, Mauricio Pochettino will ensure his Spurs side do not underestimate the opposition as writing Watford off has proved fatal for many before him.
