Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to get back to winning ways in the Premier League by claiming a 2-0 win over West Ham United in the top flight on Saturday lunchtime.

The Red Devils head into the game on the back of their disappointing League Cup exit in midweek at the hands of Derby County.

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side also dropped points in their most recent Premier League outing when they slipped to a 1-1 draw against Wolves at Old Trafford last weekend.

Manchester United already find themselves eight points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool FC heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures.

However, Lawrenson is tipping Mourinho’s men to bounce back this weekend by claiming a comfortable win at the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “I think they will go to West Ham and win.

“The Hammers have had a good week, with their point against Chelsea and then thumping Macclesfield 8-0.

“But if I was in that United dressing room after everything that has gone on this week, I would be thinking now “let’s just go and win this game and show people what we are about”.

“West Ham will come at them too which, with the way United like to play, is perfect for them.”

Manchester United are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after they finished in second place and without a trophy under Mourinho last term.

They have not won the Premier League since their famous final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013, although they did win the League Cup and Europa League in Mourinho’s first season at the club.
