Luke Shaw has heaped praise on Paul Pogba after the Frenchman’s impressive performance in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Young Boys on Wednesday night.

The France international was handed the captain’s armband in the absence of Antonio Valencia for Manchester United’s opening Champions League fixture in Switzerland.

Pogba broke the deadlock with a stunning goal in the first half after the club record signing combined with Fred before Pogba finished with a left-footed finish.

The World Cup winner added a second from the penalty spot to put Manchester United in command before Anthony Martial polished off a comfortable victory for the visitors.

Shaw was quick to praise Pogba for his influential performance in Switzerland after Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Young Boys.

“He gets some stick sometimes but we know what quality he has. For me, he is one of the best in the world. He is important as captain. He shows on the pitch what kind of leader he is. Hopefully he can carry that on,” Shaw told BBC Sport.

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the Red Devils.

The 20-time English champions are in eighth place in the table following a 2-1 win at Watford last weekend.

Manchester United will take on promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next Premier League fixture.

Mourinho signed Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant in the 2018 summer transfer window to bolster the Manchester United squad ahead of the new season.
