Arsenal will only consider entering the January transfer market if “something special” becomes available, according to Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi.

The Gunners have made a brilliant start to Unai Emery’s reign after the Spanish head coach was appointed as Arsene Wenger’s successor in the summer.

The new Arsenal manager brought in five new players to overhaul Wenger’s squad to help the Gunners challenge for a top-four finish this season.

The north London side were 3-1 winners against Everton at The Emirates on Monday night thanks to goals from Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners produced a thrilling attacking performance to suggest that a top-four finish could be realistic target in the current campaign.

Emery’s men have already got a talented attacking line up given the Spanish head coach can call upon Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ozil.

Arsenal have been linked with a potential swoop to sign Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafic in the January market to improve Emery’s back four.

However, newly appointed Arsenal head of football Sanllehi provided an update on potential deals in the upcoming transfer window.

“Unless something special comes up, in principle, the winter window is not one that we are really interested in,” Sanllehi is quoted as saying by teamTALK.

“We are always looking at the market and opportunities that could appear.

“Normally, I am not a strong fan of the winter window. I think the winter window is for unexpected problems.

“That’s not a rule, it is a principle. We have a full team of professionals looking into the market, analysing the possibilities and the players.

“The head coach embraces the philosophy we have and the way we want to play. If we see an opportunity, there is a healthy debate.”

Arsenal suffered a 2-0 loss to defending Premier League champions Manchester City in their opening Premier League fixture at The Emirates back in August.

The Gunners slumped to a 3-2 defeat by Chelsea FC a week later to put Emery under immediate pressure at Arsenal.

However, the north London side have won seven successive Premier League games to hoist themselves up to fourth place in the Premier League table.

Arsenal will have a sterner test of their top-four credentials in the coming weeks when the Gunners make the trip to Crystal Palace next weekend before Emery’s side host second-placed Liverpool FC.

Last season’s Europa League semi-finalists will be hoping to go a step further this term under three-time winner Emery.
