Michael Owen states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Derby
The Liverpool FC legend is backing Chelsea FC to ease to victory over Derby in the Carabao Cup fourth round
Michael Owen has ruled out Chelsea FC having any problems against their club legend Frank Lampard and his Derby County side in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.
The Blues were 4-0 winners against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon after goals from Alvaro Morata, Ross Barkley, Willian and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Chelsea FC have made light work of their opponents in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League since Maurizio Sarri took over the reins in the summer.
Loftus-Cheek netted a sensational hat-trick in a 3-1 victory over BATE Borisov in their Europa League clash at Stamford Bridge last week.
Derby will make the trip to Stamford Bridge fresh from a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough in their last Championship fixture at the weekend.
The Rams managed to beat Premier League giants Manchester United 8-7 on penalties in the League Cup third round after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes last month.
Lampard will provide the subplot on Wednesday night as the Blues legend returns to his former club for the first time as a manager, having already managed to get the better of his ex-boss Jose Mourinho.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen believes Chelsea FC will ease to a comfortable win against Derby at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
“The return of Frank Lampard to Stamford Bridge, where he is sure to get a great reception from the Blues’ supporters, as befits the homecoming of one of the clubs’ greatest players,” Owen told BetVictor.
“That said I don’t expect to see Frank’s Rams’ side take anything from the game, such is the quality of this Chelsea squad who showed at Turf Moor on Sunday that they are genuine title contenders.”
The Blues remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, despite having faced Premier League leaders Liverpool FC as well as bitter rivals Arsenal and Manchester United in their opening 10 Premier League games.
Chelsea FC are in third place and two points behind leaders Manchester City and Liverpool FC ahead of their home clash against Crystal Palace in their next league fixture.
The west London side have dropped points in stalemates West Ham United, Liverpool FC and Manchester United in the Premier League campaign to make an impressive star under Maurizio Sarri, who has no previous experience in English football.
