Maurizio Sarri gives latest Chelsea FC injury update on Eden Hazard
The Chelsea FC manager admits Eden Hazard might not feature against Derby County in the League Cup on Wednesday night
Maurizio Sarri has admitted that Eden Hazard is a doubt for Chelsea FC’s clash against Derby County in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.
The Blues forward was forced to sit out Chelsea FC’s 4-0 win at Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend after Hazard suffered a back problem in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United earlier this month.
Hazard has made a brilliant start to the Premier League season after the Belgian forward netted seven times in his opening nine games to highlight his continued importance to the west London side.
The 27-year-old has been key to Chelsea FC’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season and Sarri will be eager to see the number 10 return to his starting line up as soon as possible.
Hazard netted a sensational winner in the west London side’s 2-1 win over Liverpool FC in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield to ensure the Blues made progress in the competition.
However, Sarri has confirmed that Hazard is a doubt to line up against his former team-mate Frank Lampard and his Derby team in the League Cup at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
“I want Eden as soon as possible,” Sarri told his post-match media conference at Burnley. “I don’t know for Wednesday, but I hope for Sunday.”
He continued: “I want Hazard in every match if it’s possible.
“We have a lot of very good players, but Hazard is something different. I am very happy the team was able to score seven goals in two matches without Hazard. It’s a very good sign.”
Chelsea FC are in third place in the Premier League table as they look to bounce back from their fifth-placed finish last term.
The Blues turned to Sarri as their new manager in the summer after Antonio Conte endured a difficult second season in charge of the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Hazard was one of the key stars who suffered a drop in form but the Belgian star did manage to score the winner from the penalty spot in a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley back in May.
Chelsea FC have won the Premier League title three times in the last five seasons.
