Maurizio Sarri has praised David Luiz’s technical ability as his Chelsea FC side stretched their unbeaten run to seven games in the league.

Luiz has often been criticised for his poor defensive performances and even dropped from defensive-minded coaches’ teams.

However, he is flourishing under Sarri which suggests Luiz needs to play in an attacking system which was never present under previous boss Antonio Conte.

And Chelsea FC boss Sarri spoke in glowing terms about Luiz.

“When I arrived here, immediately I had the feeling he’s a very good player for my way of football because he’s a centre-back who is very technical,” Sarri told the Chelsea FC’s website.

“Then I appreciate his qualities as a man. He’s really better than I thought before.”

Sarri joined Chelsea FC from Napoli in the summer and was given a mandate to bring attacking, attractive football back to Stamford Bridge.

He has so far done that as Chelsea FC have yet to lose in the league under Sarri, having failed to score once with attacking players flourishing.

What is more surprising however, is that the system has very quickly produced a cohesive defensive unit, which Luiz is central to.

When Sarri joined, the feeling was that Chelsea FC were going to have to outscore opponents, but it seems that Sarri’s philosophy suits the heavily attack-minded Luiz whilst in defence.

Luiz has flourished and regained the defensive resoluteness which seems to be attained when he is in form and has developed into one of Chelsea FC’s best performers this season.
