The Blues signed Giroud in a £21m deal from their bitter rivals Arsenal in the January transfer window under Antonio Conte.
Giroud won the FA Cup three times during his five and a half seasons at the north London outfit.
The 31-year-old scored 105 goals in 253 games in all competitions since his move to Arsenal from Montpellier in 2012.
The France international was never a prolific goal-scorer despite contributing some valuable goals.
Giroud has found his first-team opportunities limited at Chelsea FC since his move in January.
However, the World Cup winner has proven adept at bringing his team-mates into the game.
Former Arsenal star Merson believes Chelsea FC striker Giroud is a similar player to retired England striker Heskey.
“Giroud is a proper team player,” Merson told Sky Sports. “He reminds me of Heskey.
“When the team is winning it’s great. He brings team-mates in. When they draw, the stats come up.”
Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last term after he missed out on a Champions League spot.
The Blues will take on Videoton in the Europa League group stage at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
