Paul Merson states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Man United

Paul Merson is backing Chelsea FC to beat Manchester United and end their rivals’ title challenge at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues have made a surprise start to the Premier League season despite Maurizio Sarri’s delayed appointment as Antonio Conte’s successor in the summer.
The Italian head coach has led Chelsea FC to an unbeaten start to the Premier League season following six victories and two stalemate to keep pace with Liverpool FC and Manchester City.
The Blues have already beaten Arsenal 3-2 at Stamford Bridge in their second league fixture of the season, before Liverpool FC denied Chelsea FC a valuable win when Daniel Sturridge netted a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw in west London outfit last month.
Manchester United managed to record a win in their last outing in the international break, but the Red Devils were forced to dig deep to come from 2-0 down to secure a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United.
The Red Devils have already lost three times in the Premier League this season, including two defeats on the road at Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United.
Manchester United can ill afford to lose more ground on their title rivals Manchester City, Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC, considering the Red Devils are already seven points off the pace.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Chelsea FC will inflict a fourth league defeat of the season upon Mourinho and his Manchester United side to leave their rivals toiling in mid-table.
“Over the years I’ve always said Manchester United turn up for these big games and seem to be able to grind it out, but at the moment they let in far too many goals,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Their result against Newcastle covered over all the cracks. I’ve got to go with Chelsea, I think they will be too strong for United.”
Merson added: “If United do lose, the pressure will almost certainly crank up again on Jose Mourinho. At the start of the season, we were talking about them being in the title race but now they are fighting for the top four. They are seven points off the top of the table at the moment and with a defeat on Saturday the gap could increase to 10, that’s good night in terms of the title race.”
Manchester United have lost all three of their games at Stamford Bridge since former Blues manager Mourinho took over the reins of the Old Trafford outfit in May 2016.
Chelsea FC have only lost one of their last 16 home games against Manchester United to highlight their dominance of this fixture throughout the Premier League era.
