The Blues have made a strong start to the new season under new manager Maurizio Sarri following his appointment at Stamford Bridge back in July and they notched up an impressive victory at St Mary’s at the weekend.
Eden Hazard set Chelsea FC on their way towards victory with his seventh Premier League goal of the season, before strikes from Barkley and Alvaro Morata in the second half secured the three points for Sarri’s men.
Barkley has been staking his claim for a regular spot in the first team under Sarri this season after he struggled for form and fitness last term following his arrival from Everton in the January transfer window.
And Chelsea FC defender Rudiger took to Instagram after the game to express his delight at helping the Blues claim all three points on Sunday – as he also sent a special message to Barkley.
Rudiger shared the photo above and wrote the caption: “Come On You Blues!!! 💙💯 A clinical performance, a clean sheet and three points 💪🏾
“Congrats @rossbarkley on your 1st @chelseafc goal! #Hustle #AlwaysBelieve #CFC.”
The west London side have certainly been impressive this season following Sarri’s appointment back in July.
It would have been understandable for the Blues to take some time to adapt to their new manager’s philosophy, but they seem to be buying in to his ideas and they are currently level on points with joint Premier League leaders Manchester City and Liverpool FC.
Whether they will be able to sustain a genuine title challenge this term remains to be seen, but the Blues have certainly laid down a marker for the season ahead with their strong performances thus far.
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 20 October.
