The Sun is reporting that Maurizio Sarri is interested in a potential swoop to sign the highly-rated Italy international from Serie A giants AC Milan.
The same article states that Chelsea FC could get one over their bitter rivals Manchested United, who have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old.
According to the same story, the Blues are hoping that the turmoil on and off the pitch at AC Milan could convince Romagnoli to complete a switch to the Premier League.
The Sun quotes a report in the Daily Telegraph that claims England international Gary Cahill could leave Chelsea FC in the January transfer window.
Speaking in the media this week, Denmark international Andreas Christensen admitted that he is open to a move away from Stamford Bridge due to a lack of playing time.
Earlier this year, Chelsea FC legend Pat Nevin claimed that Christensen would be a great addition to Manchester City given his ability to adapt to Pep Guardiola’s playing style.
Sarri has persisted with a centre-half pairing of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz in the opening eight weeks of the current Premier League season.
Romagnoli was a product of AS Roma’s youth academy before the centre-half moved to their Serie A rivals Sampdoria on loan to gain first-team experience.
Milan signed the promising Italian defender in a £20m deal from AS Roma in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Romagnoli has scored five goals in 109 games in all competitions during his three and a half seasons at the San Siro outfit.
The Milan star has also made eight appearances for the Italian national team.
The 6ft 2ins defender was part of the Milan side that won the Italian Super Cup in 2016.
