Chelsea FC are set to be disappointed in pursuit of Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi and Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, according to a report in England.

The Evening Standard is reporting that the Blues have been monitoring the Argentina international with view to a potential move in the January transfer window.

The same article states that Chelsea FC wanted to sign Icardi in 2015 and 2016 but the South American ultimately remained at the San Siro.

According to the same story, the Blues would have to meet the 25-year-old’s £97.5m release clause as well as convincing Icardi that Stamford Bridge is the right step for his career.

Standard Sport goes on to claim that Genoa are adamant that Chelsea FC’s other January target Piatek won’t be sold in the upcoming transfer window.

The 23-year-old Poland international cost a remarkable £3.5m but his value has already rocketed following a return of 13 goals in all competitions in the current campaign.

Maurizio Sarri is looking to improve his Chelsea FC attack following the well-documented struggles of Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata this season.

The France international is still waiting to score his first Premier League goal in the current campaign but the powerful centre-forward has contributed with three assists.

Morata, on the other hand, has netted two goals in the Premier League this term but the Spain international looks timid and is lacking confidence.

The Spanish forward has struggled to rekindle his La Liga form at Chelsea FC following a £60m move to Stamford Bridge from Spanish giants Real Madrid in the 2017 summer transfer window.

Chelsea FC are in third place in the Premier League table following a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge last weekend after goals from Ross Barkley and Antonio Rudiger.

The Blues will take on Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
