England will rekindle their rivalry with Croatia in Rijeka on Friday night.

Gareth Southgate’s side will have an opportunity to exact revenge on Croatia after a 2-1 loss to their Group D opponents in the World Cup semi-final in the summer.

England have won four of their previous seven meetings with Croatia since the two countries first played out a goalless draw at Wembley in 1996.

Betfair are offering new customers the chance to get enhanced 50/1 odds on England to beat Croatia.

The Nations League fixture will see Southgate’s men take on Croatia just months after their World Cup exit at the hands of Zlatko Dalic’s side.

England were building momentum ahead of the semi-final clash following knockout stage victories over Columbia and Denmark to reach the last four for the first time since 1990.

The Three Lions made the perfect start to the World Cup semi-final after Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier broke the deadlock with a free-kick in the fifth minute.

However, Ivan Perisic levelled in the 68th minute to force extra time before Mario Mandzukic netted a winner in the 109th minute to end England’s hopes of reaching the final.

Croatia went on to lose in the World Cup final following a 4-2 defeat by France to end their hopes of winning the title for their first time in their history.

England, on other hand, lost 3-0 to Belgium in the World Cup third-placed playoff to end an otherwise promising tournament with a whimper.

It is worth pointing out that England have a mixed record against the Croats.

The Three Lions were 4-2 winners against the Croatians at Euro 2004 thanks to the heroics of Wayne Rooney.

However, Croatia beat England in both of their meetings in their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Notably, Steve McClaren’s side lost 3-2 at Wembley to deprive them off a spot at the major tournament.

But England were quick to get their revenge in their World Cup qualifying campaign for South Africa in 2010. The Three Lions were 4-1 winners over Slaven Bilic’s side in Croatia in 2008. 12 months later, England eased to a resounding 5-1 win at Wembley.

Their meeting at the 2018 World Cup was their first since 2009.
