Gary Neville believes Liverpool FC are showing traits that have existed in past Premier League champions.

The Reds have been talked up as potential title winners this season following some key signings over the past 10 months.

Jurgen Klopp spent a world record fee for a defender on Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in the January transfer window.

Van Dijk has already improved the Liverpool FC defence despite the Netherlands international being at the Merseyside outfit less than 12 months.

The Liverpool FC manager addressed the club’s clear weakness in goal with the £67m signing of Brazil number one Alisson Becker from AS Roma in August.

Alisson has kept five clean sheets in eight games in the Premier League this season to help Klopp’s side keep the league’s best defensive record so far.

Liverpool FC won their opening six Premier League games before a 1-1 draw with Chelsea FC and a 0-0 stalemate with Manchester City.

Klopp’s side haven’t hit their top gear so far, despite maintaining their incredible unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

And former Manchester United defender Neville believes Klopp’s men are displaying characteristics that belong to champions.

“You say champions need to pick up points when they aren’t playing well,” Neville told his Sky Sports podcast.

“Liverpool aren’t at their best at the moment – the front three aren’t at their best [yet].”

Liverpool FC will hope to make a swift return to winning ways at Huddersfield on Saturday 20 October as the Reds look to keep pace with Manchester City and Chelsea FC.

The Merseyside outfit are level on points with defending champions Manchester City at the top of the table after missing out on the chance to secure a vital win over the Citizens.

The Reds also signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho and RB Leipzig playmaker Naby Keita in the 2018 summer transfer window.

Liverpool FC lost 1-0 to Napoli in their most recent Champions League fixture in Naples earlier this month, having eased to a 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain back in September.
