Joe Gomez could establish himself as England’s best defender at Liverpool FC, Troy Deeney has claimed.

The England international has benefited from Dejan Lovren’s absence at the start of the Premier League season.

Gomez has partnered Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool FC defence in their opening six fixtures.

The 21-year-old impressed in Liverpool FC’s 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur with a commanding performance.

Gomez acquitted himself well against Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe in Liverpool FC’s 3-2 win over PSG in the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp rested Gomez for Liverpool FC’s 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield last weekend ahead of him playing the 90 minutes against Chelsea FC on Saturday.

Watford captain Deeney lavished praise on Gomez for his impressive performances in the Liverpool FC team.

“Gomez is a beast of a player,” Deeney told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He is going to be England’s centre-half for the next 15 years.

“Playing alongside Van Dijk, he is only going to get better.”

Gomez moved to Liverpool FC in a £5m deal from Charlton Athletic under Brendan Rodgers in the 2015 summer transfer window.

Liverpool FC have kept four clean sheets in their opening six games in the Premier League so far this season.
