Rio Ferdinand believes Liverpool FC are genuine contenders to win the Premier League title this season.

The Merseyside outfit showed their resilience at Stamford Bridge at the weekend after Liverpool FC came from behind to rescue a point.

Eden Hazard broke the deadlock for Chelsea FC in the first half with his sixth Premier League goal of the campaign.

Liverpool FC substitute Daniel Sturridge levelled in the final moments of the clash thanks to the 29-year-old’s long-range strike at Stamford Bridge.

The Merseyside outfit are level on points with defending champions and current leaders Manchester City after seven games.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand is backing the Reds to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League crown throughout the campaign.

“They are genuine title contenders – 100 per cent,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“You can’t look at this Liverpool team and think that they don’t have a real chance.

“They’ve got the quality, they’ve got the manager who’s implementing his ideas into this team.

“They know exactly what they’re about, the intensity at which they play… you feel they’re always going to be involved in the game. They are definitely up there.”

Liverpool FC are in second place in the Premier League table and the Reds finished in the runners up spot in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Reds signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Stoke playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool FC will make the trip to Italy to take on Napoli in their next Champions League fixture on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were 3-2 winners against Paris Saint-Germain in their European opener at Anfield last month.
