Martin Keown is backing Liverpool FC to ease to a 3-2 win over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday evening.

The Reds have the chance to lay down an early marker in the title race when the defending champions make the trip to Merseyside this weekend.

Indeed, Liverpool FC can hoist themselves to the top of the Premier League table and move three points ahead of the Eastlands outfit if Jurgen Klopp’s side win.

The Merseyside outfit came from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw with Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge last weekend after former Manchester City striker Sturridge netted a late equaliser.

Liverpool FC have an impressive record against Manchester City and the Merseyside club haven’t lost to the Eastlands outfit since 2003.

The Citizens recorded their last win at Anfield thanks to Nicolas Anelka’s added-time injury strike sealed a 2-1 win against the Frenchman’s former club.

The Arsenal legend has made no secret of his belief that Liverpool FC will win the Premier League title this season, despite Manchester City’s domination in the top flight last term.

And with that in mind, the retired England international is backing the Reds to ease to a 3-2 win against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Questioned about who will win the top of the table clash on Merseyside during his Ask Keown column in the Daily Mail on Thursday, Keown said: “I’ve gone for Liverpool to win the league so they need to win this one.

“I’m hoping this is the game of the season, with everyone at their best. I’m going for Liverpool to win 3-2.”

Liverpool FC suffered a resounding and humiliating 5-0 loss to Manchester City in their first meeting in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium last season.

However, Sadio Mane’s sending off undoubtedly played a part in the one-sided scoreline, although the Citizens were good value for their victory.

Liverpool FC got their revenge at the start of 2018 when the Merseyside outfit eased to a 4-3 victory over Manchester City at Anfield to end their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Klopp’s side produced one of their best Champions League performances to seal a 3-0 win against the Citizens in the first leg of their quarter-final clash at Anfield in April.

Liverpool FC followed up their home success with a 2-1 win at The Etihad, coming from behind thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
