Gary Lineker took to social media to launch a defence of Mohamed Salah after the attacker fired Liverpool FC to a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday night.

The Egypt international had found himself under scrutiny in recent weeks, with his last goal for the Reds having come in the 3-0 win over Southampton back on 22 September.

However, Salah underlined his importance to the Liverpool FC team when he netted the all-important winning goal in the 24th minute of the Reds’ 1-0 victory at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday evening.

England legend Lineker knows a thing or two about being a goal-scorer, and the former striker took to Twitter to voice his opinion on Salah after he broke the deadlock on Saturday night.

Lineker posted on Twitter after Salah netted his goal: “Salah scores. He’s a proper player not a flash in the pan.

“All goal-scorers, however good they are, go through spells where it doesn’t happen for them.”

The win was a welcome one for Liverpool FC after back to back draws in the top flight for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The result left them joint top of the Premier League table, with Manchester City currently ahead thanks to their impressive goal difference.

Liverpool FC will now return back to Champions League action on Wednesday night when they host Red Star Belgrade at Anfield in their next group game.
