Turkish media outlet turkishfootball.com, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that Liverpool FC are interested in a deal to sign the Hoffenheim star in the January transfer window.
The same article states that Jurgen Klopp is well aware of what Demirbay could bring to the Liverpool FC team following his stint alongside the German head coach at Borussia Dortmund.
According to the same story, Arsenal have previously shown an interest in the German star after Demirbay impressed in his national team’s successful run in the Confederations Cup in 2017.
But the Daily Star suggests Liverpool FC could have an edge over their rivals given the Hoffenheim star shares the same management as current Reds star Naby Keita and Sadio Mane.
The story finishes with the claim that the Hoffenheim playmaker has a £28m contract release clause in his current deal with the Bundesliga outfit.
Demirbay has made four appearances in the Bundesliga and the Champions League in the current campaign.
Liverpool FC have made a promising start to the Premier League season after six victories and two draws to underline their title credentials this campaign.
The Reds have failed to secure three points in their last two outings following successive draws with title rivals Chelsea FC and Manchester City.
Klopp’s side can make a return to winning ways this weekend when Liverpool FC make the short trip to winless Huddersfield Town as the German coach takes on his close friend David Wagner.
Liverpool FC have a number of injury concerns about key stars such as Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all picked up knocks on international duty.
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title and their last top-flight crown came in 1990.
