Liverpool FC are interested in a potential deal to sign Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne, according to a report in the Italian media.

Rai Sport, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that the Reds are looking at the Italy international as a potential option to add more firepower to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

The same article states that Liverpool FC are keen to bolster their attacking options after a slow start to the season for their prolific trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

According to the same story, Napoli would be looking for an enormous transfer fee for the Italian striker given Insigne has come through the ranks at the Serie A side.

Insigne has already scored six goals in eight games for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to help Napoli hoist themselves up to second place in the table but six points adrift of Juventus.

Liverpool FC have first hand experience of Insigne’s talents after the Italy international netted a 90th minute winner in a 1-0 victory over the Premier League side in the Champions League earlier this month.

The 5ft 4ins striker has netted 70 goals in 272 games in all competitions since establishing himself as a first-team regular when he scored five times in 43 games in the 2012-13 season.

Insigne has enjoyed loan spells at numerous Italian clubs to gain vital experience before the Naples-born striker became a talisman for his hometown side.

The Italy international spent time at Cavese, Foggia and Pescara before coming into his own at Napoli under Walter Mazzarri and Maurizio Sarri at Stadio San Paolo.

Liverpool FC were the Premier League’s second-highest goal-scorers last season but the Reds have been outscored by Manchester City, Chelsea FC and Arsenal in the current campaign.

The Merseyside outfit will make the trip to Huddersfield Town in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday evening.
