The France international produced an impressive performance in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with bitter rivals Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Martial cancelled out Antonio Rudiger’s first-half opener before the France forward edged Manchester United into a 2-1 lead before Ross Barkley’s injury-time equaliser.
The striker was also in fine form on Sunday as he netted and was named as the man of the match in the 2-1 win over Everton on at Old Trafford.
Martial has struggled to find consistency over the past two seasons or so under Jose Mourinho amid criticism of his attitude and performances by the Portuguese head coach.
The Red Devils star has seen his career stagnate somewhat under Mourinho, after he burst onto the Premier League scene in sensational style when Louis van Gaal signed the AS Monaco forward in a £39m deal in 2015.
Martial scored on his debut in a 3-1 win over Liverpool FC at Old Trafford to immediately win over Manchester United supporters, and the promising forward finished the campaign with 17 goals in all competitions.
Former Liverpool FC captain Souness believes Martial has the talent to become a world class player.
“As a manager, you’re looking at players in training – he shows in matches as though he’s not that bothered. Every day in training is every match,” Souness told Sky Sports.
“You’ve got to keep impressing the manager, at 22 you’re looking to improve all the time, and it’d be a tragedy for that boy if he doesn’t achieve what God has given him, and he could reach the very top.”
Martial scored 17 times in 47 games under Van Gaal to become a firm favourite of the Manchester United supporters.
However, the France star has only managed to score 12 times in 88 appearances during his two seasons under Mourinho’s management.
Manchester United supporters will be hoping that Martial’s performances at Stamford Bridge and against Everton mean that the France star has started to turn a corner at Old Trafford.
Martial is competing with Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard for a starting spot in Mourinho’s team.
