Paul Scholes believes Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have struggled since their moves to Manchester United under Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils signed Bailly in a £30m deal from La Liga side Villarreal following Mourinho’s appointment in the 2016 summer transfer window.

The Ivory Coast international impressed in his first season but the 25-year-old has struggled with injuries and a loss of form over the past two seasons.

Lindelof was signed in a £30m transfer from Portuguese side Benfica in 2017 but the Sweden international has underwhelmed at the Old Trafford outfit.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make the adjustment to the pace and physicality of the Premier League to raise questions about Lindelof.

Manchester United slumped to a 3-1 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium to fall further behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and Liverpool FC.

Former England midfielder Scholes has criticised Bailly and Lindelof but has pleaded with Manchester United supporters to give Fred more time.

“Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly especially haven’t seemed to be good enough,” Scholes told BT Sport. “It’s early days for people like Fred. You have to give him time.”

Manchester United finished in second spot in the Premier League table last term to secure their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

The Red Devils have won the League Cup and the Europa League under Mourinho.
