Alan Shearer believes Paul Pogba is in a stronger position at Manchester United this season following his World Cup success.

The Manchester United midfielder was one of Didier Deschamps’ star players in France’s triumphant World Cup campaign in Russia during the summer.

In fact, Pogba got on the score sheet in France’s 4-2 win over Croatia in the final to return to Old Trafford ahead of the new season as a world champion.

The 25-year-old made a promising start to the Premier League season with a goal in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Leicester City in their season opener at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have won just two of their last six games in the Premier League since their opening day win over the Foxes.

Pogba was critical of Manchester United’s tactics in a 1-1 draw with promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League last month.

Unsurprisingly, his manager Jose Mourinho was unhappy with the versatile midfielder’s comments and the Red Devils boss stripped the Frenchman of the vice captaincy.

Pogba has been linked with a potential move to La Liga champions FC Barcelona over the past couple of months to give the Manchester United number eight leverage.

Former Newcastle United striker Shearer believes Pogba is in powerful position at Manchester United during the cooling of relations between the manager and his club record signing.

“Pogba has been talking too much,” Shearer told CNN. “And players have got all the power nowadays.

“He came back a much stronger person from the World Cup with a winners medal and that puts him in a stronger position. When I first started out in the game many years ago back in the late 1980s, it was the clubs that held all the power. Now it’s gone full circle.

“The players have all the power now. Mourinho – not for the first time – is fighting with individuals in his football club. It happened at Chelsea and of course we know what happened there.”

Pogba returned to Manchester United in an £89m deal from Serie A champions Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window in what was then a world record deal.

The France international helped the Red Devils to win the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season back at Old Trafford.

However, the World Cup winner endured a difficult second season at Old Trafford punctuated by a hamstring injury and a loss of form.

His relationship with Mourinho appeared to start deteriorating when the Manchester United boss dropped Pogba to the bench for their 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16.

Manchester United will be hoping to end their winless run against struggling Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
