Paul Scholes has warned Jose Mourinho that he can’t afford to sell Manchester United club record signing Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils are in crisis mode following Manchester United’s 3-1 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday evening.

Pogba caused controversy last weekend after the France international criticised the club’s tactics following a 1-1 draw with promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.

Mourinho made the decision to strip Pogba of the vice captaincy in the wake of the World Cup winner’s comments in the media.

Pogba was linked with a potential move to La Liga champions FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window but a deal failed to materialise.

Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes doesn’t believe Mourinho can countenance the sale of Pogba.

“The war he’s got now with Pogba… he’s still his best player,” Pogba told BT Sport. “What else does he do? Can he let Pogba go? I don’t think he can.”

Manchester United suffered an 8-7 penalty shootout loss to Championship side Derby County in the Carabao Cup third round last week.

The Red Devils have lost to Brighton, Tottenham and West Ham in the Premier League this season to fall nine points behind leaders Manchester City and Liverpool FC.

The 20-time English champions are in tenth place in the Premier League table and five points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham.
