The Spanish midfielder has found his first-team opportunities to be severely limited this season due to injury, but he came on to feature for the final 15 minutes of the Red Devils’ dramatic draw in west London.
Before his run-out on Saturday, Herrera’s last appearance for the Red Devils came back on 25 September during the League Cup defeat by Derby County at Old Trafford.
Indeed, Herrera has only made a total of three Premier League appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side this season.
The 29-year-old was sent on to try and help protect Manchester United’s 2-1 lead at Stamford Bridge, but the midfielder was unable to prevent Ross Barkley from netting an equaliser for the home side deep into injury time.
Despite the disappointment of letting three points slip away, Herrera was clearly pleased to be back in action, if his update on Instagram after the game was anything to go by.
Herrera shared the photo above on his personal Instagram account after the game and wrote the caption: “Happy to be back 🔴.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea also chimed in with his own reaction to the game on social media, as he wrote on Instagram: “Always proud of my team.”
Herrera will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Champions League action with a crunch home clash against Juventus at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
