Brazil media outlet O Tempo, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that Arsenal and Chelsea FC have entered the race to sign the 19-year-old in the January transfer window.
Emerson’s performances in South America have attracted a lot of interest from Europe and the Premier League duo are hoping to exploit Atletico Mineiro’s financial woes to land a deal, the story goes on to say.
The same article suggest that Atletico could be willing to sell the promising right-back if a transfer fee in the region of £8m is put on the table by either of the Premier League clubs.
Emerson has scored one goal in 29 games in all competitions in his first season at Atletico Mineiro after he moved to the club from Ponte Preta in April 2018.
The Brazilian prospect would have a lot of competition for a starting spot at right-back in Unai Emery’s team given the array of options available to the Arsenal manager.
Hector Bellerin, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Carl Jenkinson are all available to start at right-back, with the Spanish defender the current number one option to play in the role.
Maurizio Sarri has used dependable Spain international Cesar Azpilicueta in a right-back role in the current campaign and the Chelsea FC boss has Davide Zappacosta in reserve.
