Arsenal face battle to sign 22-year-old Serie A striker – report
Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign Patrik Schick but face still competition from three clubs, according to a report
Arsenal are involved in a four-way battle to sign AS Roma striker Patrik Schick, according to a report in England.
Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, as quoted by talkSPORT, is reporting that the Gunners are interested in a deal to sign the 22-year-old striker.
The same article states that Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Schick since his time at Sampdoria before the centre-forward moved to AS Roma in 2017.
According to the same story, the Gunners view the Czech Republic international as a potential replacement for Danny Welbeck, who broke his ankle during a 0-0 draw with Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League last week.
However, Corriere dello Sport confirm that Arsenal are facing intense competition for the AS Roma striker’s signature given their Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, as well as La Liga duo Real Vallodid and Sevilla, are interested in the promising Czech star.
Schick scored three goals in 29 games in all competitions during his first season in the Italian capital after AS Roma signed the Czech Republic international.
Arsenal supporters will be hoping his compatriot Petr Cech can help to convince the promising striker to move to north London ahead of a potential switch to Spain.
The Gunners are in fifth place in the Premier League table following a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Granit Xhaka made a mistake to allow Wolves to break the deadlock in the 12th minute before Henrikh Mkhitaryan netted a late equaliser.
Arsenal are three points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of a Champions League spot and the derby rivals will face each other on Sunday 2 December.
However, the Gunners have the small matter of a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday 25 November before Arsenal hosting Spurs at The Emirates.
