Cesar Azpilicueta is confident that Chelsea FC will hoist themselves above Premier League leaders Manchester City when the two sides meet on 8 December.

The Blues have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League season, which has come as a surprise following their change of management in the summer.

Maurizio Sarri took over the reins from Antonio Conte after the former Juventus head coach won the Premier League and the FA Cup in two seasons in west London.

However, Conte was unable to steer Chelsea FC to a fourth place finish last term to prompt the Blues to replace the Italian head coach with his compatriot Sarri.

Chelsea FC have won eight of their opening 11 games in the Premier League under Sarri, only dropping points in stalemates with West Ham, Liverpool FC and Manchester United.

The Blues are two points behind the defending Premier League champions and look to be coasting following a resounding 6-1 win over Southampton at The Etihad last weekend.

Chelsea FC will welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge on 8 December after both clubs have played four more Premier League fixtures.

And Azpilicueta is confident that the Blues can secure 12 points before beating Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s in our hands,” Azpilicueta told the Evening Standard. “Obviously if we don’t drop points, we have the chance to do it (on December 8).

“We know that to get to that chance, you have to get the three points in games like we had against Crystal Palace.

“We cannot drop points, we need to work hard, keep improving and let’s see on that day, if we have the chance to do it.

“We are happy with our results. We know that we can still do better and the League is very tough – you have to fight for every game.

“This table at the moment is something that we want – to be at the top at the end. We know that it’s going to be difficult, but we know how to win the Premier League and we will try.”

Chelsea FC will welcome Everton to west London next weekend before a difficult trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

Sarri’s men will start December with games against Fulham and Wolves before a meeting with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on 8 December.

Guardiola’s side will take on Manchester United in the derby at The Etihad on Sunday, before games against West Ham, Bournemouth and Watford.

Chelsea FC have won the Premier League title in two of the past four seasons, but the Blues have also failed to qualify for the Champions League in two of their last three campaigns to highlight their inconsistency.
