Jorginho believes Chelsea FC weren’t compact enough in Saturday evening’s 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

The Blues made the trip to north London looking to protect their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Chelsea FC had managed to beat Arsenal in their second fixture of the campaign, while the Blues collected points against Liverpool FC and Manchester United.

Jorginho had been instrumental in their impressive start to life under Maurizio Sarri after the Italian head coach signed the midfielder in a £57m deal from Napoli in the 2018 summer transfer window.

However, the summer signing was exposed in the derby clash at Wembley as Spurs secured a commanding 3-1 win thanks to goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table and seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City, who were 4-0 winners against West Ham United last weekend.

Jorginho highlighted why Chelsea FC lost to Tottenham in the London derby last weekend.

“Our team was not as compact as it always is,” Jorginho told ESPN Brazil, as quoted by Sport Witness.

“The first pressure wasn’t being made, I believe it wasn’t being made. So the defensive line ended up going down a lot and our team got very stretched.

“From the beginning, when you have [Manchester] City in the competition, it’s already difficult. But I don’t think we have to look ahead. We have to look at today, now, because there is much to improve, a lot to change.”

Jorginho has scored one goal in 13 games in the Premier League this season following his big-money summer move.

The Blues will take on Fulham in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday when ex-Chelsea FC manager Claudio Ranieri returns to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea FC are a point ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal.
