Chelsea FC should consider a swoop to sign Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, according to former Blues defender Jason Cundy.

The former England Under-21 international scored five goals in his opening 10 appearances of the season in the Premier League ahead of their home clash against Manchester United on Saturday.

Not only is Wilson contributing goals, but the 26-year-old has made four assists for his Bournemouth team-mates to highlight his versatility in a centre-forward role for the south coast club.

Wilson netted twice in a 3-0 victory over promoted side Fulham at Craven Cottage in their last Premier League fixture ahead of the visit of Jose Mourinho’s inconsistent Red Devils side.

And the Bournemouth striker broke the deadlock in the first half before Manchester United came from behind to secure a 2-1 win on Saturday.

Chelsea FC have relied upon Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud in the current campaign but the duo have struggled to produce consistent form up front for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Former Chelsea FC defender Cundy, who made 41 appearances in four years at Stamford Bridge, believes that Wilson would be a great addition to the Blues team in the January transfer window.

“It’s still early days but he’s starting to reach the same sort of levels even if it’s only ten games where he is now starting to score the sort of goals that will start to catch the eye,” Cundy told talkSPORT.

“He’s going to catch the eye. He’s got an eye for goal, I love his industry and he works incredibly hard.

“Let’s not forget he’s had two bad injuries and he’s had the mental strength to come back from those devastating knee injuries.

“A potential international in the future? I don’t doubt that for a second.

“If he carries on the way he is I think Southgate would be mad to ignore him, mad!

“So the question is who will look to sign him in January before his stock rises to a ridiculous level?

“I’m looking at my club, Chelsea. We’ve got two number nines in Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud. Neither of them are holding down a regular spot.

“And I think with the way Chelsea are playing under Maurizio Sarri, Callum Wilson would be perfect for Chelsea. Perfect!

“He can spin in behind, he’s got an eye for goal and he’s an intelligent player.”

Wilson has netted 45 goals in 121 games over the past five seasons at the Vitality Stadium following his move from Bournemouth from Coventry City.

The England Under-21 international scored eight times in 28 games in the Premier League last term to produce his best return since the Cherries promotion to the English top flight.

Wilson was part of Eddie Howe’s side that won the Championship title in 2014-15, scoring 20 times in 45 games in the second tier.

Chelsea FC signed Morata in a £60m deal from La Liga side Real Madrid in the 2017 summer transfer window before Giroud completed a £20m switch from Arsenal in January.
