French media outlet RMC, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Blues are interested in the 20-year-old Lyon starlet after his impressive start to the Ligue 1 season.
The same article states that Maurizio Sarri views France Under-21 international Aouar as an ideal player to complement his current system at the west London side.
According to the same story, the Italian head coach believes the Lyon playmaker would be an ideal number eight in the Chelsea FC team to add more firepower to his team.
RMC add that Chelsea FC will face stiff competition for the French prospect given that their Premier League rivals Liverpool FC and La Liga champions FC Barcelona are also said to be monitoring Aouar.
The Lyon midfielder has scored five goals and has made one assist in 13 games in Ligue 1, while Aouar has created three goals for his team-mates at the French side.
However, some Chelsea FC supporters could be concerned that a swoop to sign Aouar could negatively impact Ross Barkley, who has made a scintillating start to the campaign.
The England international has netted three goals and made three assists in 11 games in the Premier League in the current campaign.
Chelsea FC will take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Saturday.
