And Juan Mata levelled with five minutes to go when the Spain international curled a finish past Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in Turin.
Manchester United went on to conjure a winner with a helping hand from Alex Sandro after the Brazilian deflected the ball into his own net from Ashley Young’s free-kick.
Former Tottenham striker Lineker took to Twitter to lavish praise on the Manchester United team for another resilient performance under Jose Mourinho.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Blimey, the @ManUtd comeback machine is switched on again.”
Manchester United started their clash against Juventus on Wednesday night in third place after Valencia eased to a victory over Swiss side Young Boys in the early kick off.
The Red Devils, though, ended the night in second spot and just two points behind group leaders Juventus ahead of their next Champions League clash against Young Boys at Old Trafford on Tuesday 27 November.
