The Belgian striker has been struggling with a hamstring problem and he has not featured for the Red Devils since the 2-1 win over Everton on 28 October.
Manchester United fans will be hoping that Lukaku will be able to prove his fitness ahead of the Red Devils’ trip to The Etihad this weekend.
Lukaku has been struggling for form in recent weeks and he has not scored for Manchester United since their 2-1 win over Watford back on 15 September.
Nevertheless, Mourinho is still keen to get the striker back playing as soon as possible – and the Portuguese coach has hinted that Lukaku could be back available for Sunday’s showdown against Pep Guardiola’s league leaders.
Speaking to MUTV on Friday, Mourinho said: “No new injures. So from Juventus we don’t bring important injuries.
“We have touches but I don’t think any player that was available for Juventus will be out.
“We have a chance – it is Friday morning now – that Lukaku could be back [for Sunday].”
He continued: “He [Lukaku] was training with the team this morning. If the answer is positive…
“We have one more session tomorrow. If the answer is positive then he is ready but at the moment he only trains with the team.”
Manchester United head into Sunday’s game fresh from their thrilling 2-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils know that a win against Manchester City on Sunday would leave them six points behind the defending champions heading into the final international break of 2018.
Manchester United are aiming to at least challenge for major trophies this season after they ended last term without any silverware.
