Jurgen Klopp told Aaron Ramsey would be great Liverpool FC signing
Former Liverpool FC star Steve McMahon would love to see Aaron Ramsey at Anfield
Aaron Ramsey would be a good addition to the Liverpool FC squad next summer, according to former Reds talisman Steve McMahon.
The Gunners star is facing uncertain future at the north London outfit after the versatile midfielder entered the final year of his current deal with Arsenal.
As things stand, Ramsey could leave on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires, which would be an appealing prospect for top clubs in the Premier League and Europe.
The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the top box-to-box midfielders in the Premier League in recent seasons, having found a level of consistency at the north London side.
Unsurprisingly, a host of top clubs have been linked with a move for Ramsey next summer when his deal comes to an end, and Liverpool FC are one of the teams thought to be interested.
The Reds signed his former Arsenal team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a £40m deal in the 2017 summer transfer window and the England international has already improved at Anfield.
Former Liverpool FC midfielder McMahon reckons Ramsey would be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s team – if the Reds can win what will surely be a competitive race to sign the Wales international.
“Liverpool would do well to get him,” McMahon told Sky Sports on Wednesday night last week.
“He’s a midfield player who goes beyond the strikers and Liverpool haven’t got that.
“Liverpool have got good midfield players that play in front, they’ve got top strikers who score goals and have got pace, good defenders.
“But when it’s a bit of a stalemate, they haven’t got someone to go ahead, the third man running, not just to try and get a goal but to take the players away and open the space up.
“Ramsey is one of those players and is a goal-scoring midfield player with great technique.
“At a club, you’ve got your levels. Arsenal have their level of a wage structure and Liverpool can well afford the Ramsey’s of this world.”
The Welshman was a late substitute in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool FC on Saturday evening.
Ramsey would face intense competition for a starting spot at Liverpool FC given that Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Fabinho are all vying for a place in Klopp’s midfield.
However, the Welshman could be a natural successor to club legend Steven Gerrard, who established himself as one of the Premier League’s greatest-ever box-to-box midfielders during his spell at his boyhood club.
Ramsey has also been linked with a move to Liverpool FC’s title rivals Chelsea FC and Manchester United, while Arsenal could still have a change of heart and tie down the Welshman to a new contract before next summer.
