The Reds have made a promising start to the Premier League season but Liverpool FC remain behind Manchester City in the title race.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are two points behind the Premier League leaders but there is a sense that the German head coach has more work to do to overhaul Manchester City.
Asensio was linked with a move to Liverpool FC in the summer but the Real Madrid playmaker ultimately remained at the Champions League holders after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit.
The 22-year-old has scored one goal and has made one assist in 13 appearances in La Liga this season.
And Spanish reporter Inda has now claimed that Liverpool FC will renew their interest in the Spain international in the summer.
“This year, an offer of €180m came to Liverpool’s Real Madrid for Asensio,” Inda told OK Diario, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.
“The club said no because Cristiano left, but Klopp is in love with the player and will go for the player next summer.”
OK Diario, as quoted by The Daily Mirror, is reporting that Liverpool FC failed with a staggering offer for Asensio in the 2018 summer transfer window.
The same article states that the Reds are in pole position given their willingness to offer such a huge fee last summer.
The Reds spent £75m on Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk last January, but the former Southampton defender has already repaid a large portion of his fee.
Asensio has won La Liga, the Champions League twice and the Spanish Super Cup.
