Former England international Scholes believes Mourinho is running out of allies at Old Trafford after a challenging start to the 2018-19 season.
“He seems like a lonely man at the minute doesn’t he?” Scholes told BT Sport.
“He seems the man stuck in the middle of everything. He’s fallen out with the people who are trying to buy players for him, he’s having a pop at his players.
“He just seems a little bit alone in the middle of it all at the minute. And the way his team is playing it seems that way as well.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Southampton.
The Red Devils are in seventh place in the table and 14 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
Mourinho’s side are facing a battle to secure a top-four spot given Chelsea FC are eight points ahead of Manchester United.
