The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils boss is keen to try and bring the 29-year-old striker to Old Trafford as he looks to boost his side’s chances of finishing in the top four this season.
The same story says that the club are considering a bid of more than £50m to try and bring the forward to Manchester United in the new year.
According to the same article, Mourinho was keen on a bid to bring Arnautovic to Old Trafford in the summer but a move failed to materialise.
The striker played under Mourinho for a short time during his spell in charge of Inter Milan in Italy, and it seems that Manchester United could be set to try and make a move to sign him in January.
The story comes after Manchester United dropped yet more points in the Premier League on Saturday, when they were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are now a staggering 14 points behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League table.
Manchester United will return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when they host Young Boys at Old Trafford.
