Man United rekindle interest in 32-year-old La Liga star – report
Manchester United have renewed their interest in Atletico Madrid and Uruguay defender Diego Godin, according to a report
Manchester United are ready to rekindle their interest in Atletico Madrid centre-half Diego Godin, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror quotes unnamed reports in Spain that suggest the Red Devils are prepared to renew their interest in the 32-year-old to help end their defensive woes.
The same article states that Atletico Madrid are looking to secure Godin’s long-term future with a new contract but Manchester United’s interest could complicate negotiations.
The La Liga winner is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2018-19 season when his current Atletico deal expires.
Godin rejected Manchester United last summer but Daily Mirror reporter John Cross believes the Red Devils remain determined to sign the Uruguay international.
The story goes on to suggest that the 20-time English champions are monitoring Godin’s negotiations with Atletico Madrid closely and are ready to act on their interest.
Manchester United have conceded 21 times in 12 games in the Premier League in the current campaign – only Cardiff City, Fulham, Huddersfield Town and Burnley have let in more goals.
The Daily Mirror add that Mourinho remains keen on signing experienced Chelsea FC defender Gary Cahill on a loan deal in the January transfer window.
The 32-year-old has only played 19 minutes in the Premier League under Maurizio Sarri this season to raise big questions about his future at the west London side.
