Jose Mourinho is set to be disappointed in the January transfer window as Manchester United look unlikely to make any signings, according to a report in England.

The Independent is reporting that Mourinho hasn’t held discussions with Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward about potential January signings.

The same article states that Woodward and the Manchester United board are reluctant to give Mourinho transfer funds given the uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford.

According to the same story, the Red Devils chiefs are also conscious of some of Portuguese manager’s disappointing signings since taking over the reins in May 2016.

Mourinho was unable to contain his frustration at a lack of new signings in the summer transfer window after the Red Devils failed to land a defensive recruit.

Manchester United have paid the price for this transfer failing in the current Premier League campaign, having conceded 21 times in 12 games in the top flight so far.

Victor Lindelof is the only Manchester United defender to emerge with any real credit, while Eric Bailly has continued his alarming dip in form.

Manchester United are in eighth place in the Premier League and 12 points behind current leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils broke up for the international break on a sour note despite a return of 10 points from five games after Manchester United lost 3-1 to Manchester City in the derby last weekend.
