Respected Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, as quoted by Football Italia, is reporting that Manchester United have met with Pellegrini’s agent Giacomo Pocetta in London last week.
The same article states that Manchester United offered to double the 22-year-old’s wages if Pellegrini moves to the 20-time English champions to bolster their midfield options.
Indeed, the AS Roma star would see his current salary of €1m per year doubled until June 2022 in a proposed three-and-a-half year deal at Manchester United.
According to the same story, the Red Devils would be willing to meet Pellegrini’s €30m contract release clause.
However, Manchester United could have to act quickly to get a deal over the line, given that AS Roma sporting director Monchi wants Pellegrini to sign a new deal to remove the contract release clause, according to the story.
The AS Roma star has scored one goal and has made two assists in nine games in Serie A this season, finding the net in a 3-1 win over Lazio in the Rome derby.
Pellegrini got on the score-sheet and made an assist in an impressive Champions League performance to help AS Roma secure a 2-1 victory at CSKA Moscow in their last European fixture.
He is a regular in the Italy national team and came off the bench in their goalless draw with Portugal during the international break.
