The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are evaluating potential replacements for the Spain international in the eventuality that De Gea decides to end his eight-year spell at Old Trafford.
The same article states that Manchester United chiefs believe Brighton’s Australian international could be an adept replacement for the 27-year-old shot stopper.
According to the same story, the 20-time English champions believe Ryan is in the right moment in his career to move to one of the Premier League’s leading clubs.
De Gea has entered the final year of his current contract, although Manchester United have the option to exercise a one-season extension.
However, The Sun claim that the Red Devils are genuinely worried that the Spain number one could leave on a free transfer in the coming two seasons.
De Gea has consistently been Manchester United’s best player since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, having led the Red Devils to their 13th title under his management.
While the former Atletico Madrid star struggled in his initial seasons at Manchester United, De Gea has firmly established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League over the past four seasons.
Ryan, on the other hand, was voted Belgium’s best goalkeeper following a two-season stint with Club Brugge before a move to La Liga side Valencia in 2015.
The Australia international sealed a £5m switch to Brighton in the 2017 summer transfer window and Ryan has been a huge hit at the Amex Stadium.
The Brighton number one has made 42 appearances in all competitions for the Seagulls since his switch to the Premier League club.
