Respected Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that Manchester United are interested in a deal to sign the Slovakia international.
The same article states that Jose Mourinho wants the Red Devils to launch an offer for the Inter Milan defender when the January transfer window opens.
However, Manchester United will need make an improved bid to sign Skriniar, after the same story suggested the San Siro outfit knocked back a £53m offer from the Premier League club.
Inter Milan are looking to tie down the 23-year-old to a new long-term deal to secure the centre-half’s future but Manchester United’s reported interest is sure to complicate negotiations.
Alternatively, Skriniar’s agent could use links to Manchester United to get improved terms with the 2010 Champions League winners.
Manchester United are in urgent need of defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window after an uncertain start to the current campaign.
The Red Devils have already conceded 21 times in 12 games in the Premier League to leave them with the fifth worst defensive record in the top flight.
Only relegation candidates Fulham, Cardiff City, Burnley and Huddersfield Town have conceded more goals than Manchester United in the Premier League this term.
