The Uruguay international moved to Arsenal in a £26m deal from Serie A side Sampdoria in the 2018 summer transfer window ahead of an impressive World Cup campaign.
Torreira has proven an instant hit with the Arsenal supporters given his combative and tenacious style of play in the middle of the park.
The 22-year-old has forged an impressive partnership with Granit Xhaka in midfield, helping to bring out the best in the Switzerland international.
Torreira was named the man of the match for his performance in his first-ever north London derby following his goal in a 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates last weekend.
He also netted the winning goal in the 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Arsenal have lacked an influential defensive midfielder since Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva left the club, although players such as Alex Song and Francis Coquelin have attempted to fill the void.
Former Gunners striker Wright believes Torreira is the player that Arsenal have been desperately searching for.
“[Torreira is] the guy we have been looking for in the past three or four seasons,” Wright told BBC Sport.
“Arsenal supporters wanted to know when are we going to sign a defensive midfielder. We have got the guy we needed.
“He was magnificent [against Tottenham]. The way he plays, he is everywhere on the pitch. He gets into positions where he can get into people.”
Torreira scored four goals in 74 games for Sampdoria in all competitions to attract interest from the north London side.
The Gunners made five signings in the summer transfer window, but Torreira has proven the most influential so far.
