Unai Emery raves about Lucas Torreira’s start at Arsenal
The Arsenal manager heaps praise on Lucas Torreira after his winner in a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon
Unai Emery has revealed that Lucas Torreira is committed to becoming a better player at Arsenal.
The Uruguay international has been an instant hit at the north London side following his summer move to Arsenal from Sampdoria.
The Gunners spent £26m on the South American midfielder before Torreira impressed during Uruguay’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals.
Emery initially used Torreira sparingly in the opening weeks of the season before the summer signing forced his way into Arsenal’s team.
Torreira’s tenacity has won over the Arsenal supporters, displaying his leadership skills in the middle of the park.
The 22-year-old scored Arsenal’s last goal in a 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby at the start of December.
Torreira took his tally to two goals for the Premier League campaign with a great strike in Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Huddersfield Town at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking to Arsenal’s website about Torreira’s performances in the Gunners team, Emery said:
“We want to break every expectation with all players.
“He’s improving and working hard every day with a very big commitment, very good behaviour. He also has the commitment every day to learn English.
“I meet him every day in the dressing room and the first thing I notice is his commitment, his behaviour, and then he has quality and personality too.”
Torreira has scored two goals and has made two assists in 11 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League this term.
The Arsenal star will be hoping to start against Southampton next weekend when Torreira will be aiming to net his third goal in four games.
