The German was not included in the matchday squad despite having been pictured in training in the days leading up to the clash at Anfield.

Ozil has struggled for both form and fitness this season and Emery has not been afraid to leave the playmaker out of the team altogether.
However, the new Arsenal boss has confirmed that Ozil missed Saturday’s game due to a knee problem and not for another reason.
Asked if Ozil was injured in his post-match news conference at Anfield, Emery replied: “Yes. [It is] his knee. I don’t know if it’s big or not big, but it’s his knee.”
Arsenal will now dust themselves down as they look to get back to winning ways in the top flight when they host Fulham at The Emirates on new year’s day.
The north London side are aiming to at least break back into the top four this season after having finished outside the Champions League qualification spots for the last two campaigns running.
