The playmaker has been missing in recent games due to a back injury and it is not yet clear whether he will be fit for Saturday’s clash against Huddersfield Town at The Emirates.
Ozil has not featured for Arsenal since the 1-1 draw with Wolves at The Emirates back on 11 November, and he has missed wins over Bournemouth and Tottenham in that time.
The north London side have been earning praise for their recent performances, and Unai Emery’s side are unbeaten since their defeat by Chelsea FC back in August at Stamford Bridge.
Now, former Arsenal star Merson feels that Ozil’s place in the Arsenal team could be under threat following their solid performances without him in recent weeks.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “I’m a big fan of Ozil but if Arsenal are going to play like they did against Spurs, work like that as a team and close down, you can’t have one not buying into it.
“It doesn’t matter how good you are because everybody has got to be singing off the same hymn sheet, and I don’t see that with him.”
Arsenal will look to get back to winning ways against Huddersfield Town on Saturday after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The Gunners are aiming to at least break back into the top four this season after they finished sixth and without a trophy under Arsene Wenger last term.
