Arsenal manager Unai Emery revealed after Sunday’s dramatic derby win that Ozil had missed the game due to “back ache”.
Two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and strikes from Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira wrapped up a brilliant win for Arsenal, as they moved up into fourth place in the table.
Ozil was not in the matchday squad and he was an unused substitute during the win over Bournemouth last weekend.
However, the 30-year-old did not seem to be too downbeat about his lack of playing time, as he posted the following update on Twitter shortly after Sunday’s win at The Emirates.
Ozil wrote: “When @seadk6 [Sead Kolasinac] pulls out the Emirates corner flag then you know something big has happened. 🔥
“Proud of the whole team. North London is red! 🔴🔴🔴 #YaGunnersYa #Arsenal #COYG.”
It remains to be seen whether Ozil will be fit to play for Arsenal when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The German playmaker has so far scored three goals and made one assist in 10 Premier League appearances for the Gunners so far this season.
Arsenal are currently fourth in the table and eight points behind leaders Manchester City after 14 games of the new campaign.
