Maurizio Sarri’s side welcomed the defending Premier League champions to west London looking to end Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the 2018-19 campaign.
The Citizens were on top throughout most of the opening 45 minutes but the Premier League leaders couldn’t find a way past the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Chelsea FC made the breakthrough in the 44th minute thanks to N’Golo Kante’s first goal of the season after Eden Hazard picked out the France international in the penalty area.
Sarri’s men doubled their lead in the 78th minute thanks to David Luiz’s brilliant header to ensure Chelsea FC became the first Premier League team to beat the defending champions.
Chelsea FC moved to within seven points of second-placed Manchester City following their victory.
Pep Guardiola’s side, meanwhile, are a point adrift of Liverpool FC, who were 4-0 winners at Bournemouth in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Former Chelsea FC defender Melchiot lavished praise on Sarri’s side.
Melchiot wrote on Twitter: “What a great way of showing you are a top team! They played the game of Mancity better then they normally do it. Calculated risk when you have possession, focus and discipline to close the spaces on time. Great entertainment. 💙
Former Irish defender Kevin Kilbane was impressed with Kante’s performance in the middle of the park after his goal.
Kilbane wrote on social media: “That Kante fella can only play as a holding midfielder! 😉”
