Eden Hazard has insisted that he would be happy to become Chelsea FC captain but the Belgian forward believes there are other more deserving candidates in Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

The Chelsea FC number 10 is one of the most experienced players in the Blues squad following six and a half seasons at the west London side.

Hazard has established himself as a leader in the Chelsea FC team following his move to Stamford Bridge from Lille in a big-money deal in the 2012 summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old has won two Premier League titles, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his time at Chelsea FC.

Hazard has little over 18 months left to run on his current deal at Stamford Bridge to raise questions about his long-term future.

Chelsea FC have been contending with persistent speculation linking the Blues forward with a move to Champions League holders Real Madrid.

However, the Blues could use the captaincy as leverage to keep Hazard at the west London side.

Speaking to Sky Sports about potentially taking over the captain’s armband, Hazard said:

“Yes, I don’t want to say no of course.

“I mean outside football I always try to give everything for the fans, like in interviews I try to be an example, so if I’m the captain I would be happy.”

“But I think some of the players deserve more to be captain than me.

Hazard has scored 97 goals in 316 games in all competitions since his move to Chelsea FC from Lille in 2012 ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Wolves.

The Blues forward won the PFA player of the year award in 2016.
